My New Bike

Berry

Amazing!

Tree

So yesterday, I bought a new bike, even though it was a bit more than I had planned on spending (and was a mens' bike) but since it was on sale, is an 18 speed, and has a nifty bike rack on the back, I took it. It still needs better tires - the ones I have now spin out on tree roots (grr). The brakes work a little too good - if you pull on both bars, you'll get jerked to a stop (I almost got thrown off the bike, coming down a hill lol).

So with that in mind and after a short trip around the block yesterday, today I was ready to test the bike off-payment. I think I went may be 5 miles on this trail near my apartment - it's all dirt, really steep/narrow hills, and just awesomeness. I couldn't ride the whole way and mostly walked back, taking pictures - the trail was too steep in some places and going down hill scares the life out of me- especially since the trail is so narrow in some spots that if you sneeze and lose balance, you can really take a tumble into the creek, fall down a hill, or crash into a tree. I wasn't expecting as much green or the creek that I encountered! It was really, really fun. Well, except for that one time that I taped the brakes a little too hard, lost my balance on a steep incline, and fell over (ow - broke a stick with my hip!).

So, here's some random pics from the 100 or so I took. There's a pic of my bike, too smile

I hike a lot, but by foot - bike seems too dangerous!

Best part is regularly doing a trail in the northeast or midwest - the trail changes a LOT every couple of months, as leaves gain color then fall then disappear then start to rebuild then turn again. The creeks overflow and then settle and then get almost empty and then start to fill up again and then overflow.

Nothing like getting a mile or two into the woods.
Talk all you want to those trees - they were there before you were born and will live on when you're dead and gone.

Nice place to be, I'll be "there" in the woods tomorrow.....
