My 11 year old son was diagnosed by a teacher in preschool with autism. We went to a few confrences about autism and aspergers and thought he fit the mold for aspergers rather than autism.
He went on to kindergarten where another teacher told us in no way was he autistic. So we believed her. At about age 5 we started physical therapy for tremors in his hands. We did several test and never found a cause for these tremors. The doctor basically told us she had exausted all avenues. At age 8 we started seeing a psychologist, who referred us to another psychologist where my son was diagnosed ADD (inattentive). We have continued seeing our psychologist and my son has alot of anger and temper tantrums and violent outbursts. The other day at school he was frustrated and ended up cutting his finger because of the frustration and the child next to him told him to. We then went to see a psychiatrist who diagnosed my son with aspergers, and wants my child to start three medications tommorow and I don't know what to do.
Any suggestions?

First you cannot medicate Asperger's out of existence. Now you can medicate some of the symptoms. Such as if they believe he is suffering from depression which is quite usual for an AS child at this age, and cutting himself like that may indicate that. Also, there are meds for controlling anxiety that work wonders, but really to help you any more with this we would need to know the medication they are wanting to put him on. Between all of us we will probably have some knowledge of all the meds that are commonly used.

I hope we can help.
