Hello,
I am a sister roaming through the net trying to find some answers. I have a twenty eight year old brother, who my twin sister and I suspect has AS. We have always known our brother was different. Through out our growing up years, he was clumsy, had problems with communication, his voice was always loud and "stiff", He never had friends to really speak of, a complete lack of common sense or how to handle social situations. Our mother who is a teacher did try to have evalutations done and to our knowledge these were without any real answers, he did have speech therapy in school and various "diets" were tried, as well as programs for gifted children(He does have a higher IQ.) No one has ever been able to tell us what his problem is.. So he just kept going and going, being bullyed or ignored or pitied. It was difficult for me to even get to a place of wanting to help, because none of knew what to do. but Know in reading your posts I feel there could be hope but there is still a lot of confusion.
Now my sister who is a special education teacher has come up with this idea. My brother did graduate from both high school and college with a degree in History and Creative Writing. Although all jobs since graduation have been in food service, or labor. Currently he is out of work for several months and living in a house my parents are providing. Is this AS at all??? It really fits to me.. and my sister... I so desperatly want to do something to help him.. but don't really know how????? My parents especially my father will not buy into this... Does therapy really help Adults.. What will this do to his self esteem (which is already low) to have this label... I would appreciate some advice.
