Adults with Asperger’s Syndrome
needed to participate in a study
My name is Rachel Bensinger and I am a graduate student at Smith College School for Social Work. To fulfill the requirements for my Master's degree, I am required to write a thesis for which I have chosen to explore how Asperger's Syndrome affects adults and adulthood. My review of current literature has found expanding research into the impact of Asperger's on children, but little is known about the unique experiences of adults who have been diagnosed. The goal of this study is to give voice to those adults who live with the effects of Asperger's.
I am looking for adults who are willing to participate in this study. Participation will involve an interview lasting approximately 45 minutes. Interviews will be conducted either in person, over the telephone or via email/instant messaging. All oral interviews will be audiotape recorded and transcribed and correspondence interviews will be printed out. A demographic questionnaire will be completed at the beginning of the interview. Adults (over the age of 18) need to have a formal diagnosis of Asperger's Syndrome.
I am located in Denver, Colorado and my preference is to find a sample of people locally. I am also able to conduct interviews over the phone and/or email/Instant Messaging for those outside of my geographical region. Please contact me if you meet the criteria and are willing to participate.
I hope this study will provide insight into the needs of adults with Asperger's so mental health professionals can offer more effective treatment and support that will enhance quality of life.
