Really Cool! I never have enough shelf space for my books, and enough seating for my cats! This would be perfect!

As the case has angled shelves and most books are straight I don't think you can use 100% of the available space.

Also I am wondering what material the chair and stool are made of, wondering whather or not its strong enough to safely support an adults weight.

Nice original design... but it's nowhere near 100% efficent.

My bookshelves are straight, but if you saw the books on them, they are sitting all crooked and pell-mell and fallen over. This bookshelf could actually cancel out that effect and make everything look like it's in a straight line!

Castlemaid I was just thinking the same thing about the "cancelling out" effect. LOL! My bookcase is the same way. I like the way the chair and stool can be stored like that. Would keep my from having to run into the kitchen for one. Short people like me love to have "stashable" stools.

Practical? Maybe not. Cool? Very!

I'll describe a design for a bookcase:

It would be this large machine like device with lots of gears and mechanical arms and so forth. You select which book you want and pull a lever and the gears start turning and the mechanical arms move and it makes clanking and hissing noises. Steam shoots from the top of it and it vibrates and shakes. And after a few minutes of this, the book you selected appears in a tray at the bottom of the machine. Then when you're done, you put the book back in the tray, pull another lever, and the machine clanks and whines and puts the book back whee it was.

This bookcase would be powered by 27 AA batteries. One set of batteries would be good for 5 uses, and the whole thing would be 18 feet tall and weigh 2.7 tons. And it would be able to hokd a maximum of 5 books.

And still it would be more efficent then that bookcase shown in the pic.

Great bookcase design, Mr. X! I'd buy one as soon as I reinforce the floor of my mobile with super-stregnts cement pillars, and steel plates!
Oh, And I'd also have to raise the ceiling a little bit.

The only problem is that if I don't see what books I have, I'll forget that I had them! But at least, the machine would know where they are.

Any chance of getting my hamster's wheel hooked up to the bookcase to recharge the 27 AA Batteries? Now, that would be one GREAT playground for the cats, if they ever can find their way out again and avoid all the internal gears!

There is an optional hamster power kit available.

It requires one healthy hamster and will recharge the 27 batteries in about 42 hours of wheel running. Or just use the included AC power pack.
