How darkly comical (or is it lightly sick?). Not so long ago I read about these two women that came into their friend's house and found her squatting on the kitchen floor, seemingly ignoring them, and under the impression that she didn't want them there they left. It was only after two or three days had passed that they realised she had been dead all along (and remained in that condition, to the best of my knowledge). Both that and the above rather remind me of that Fawlty Towers episode "The Kippers and the Corpse", where a man dies in his bed, but Basil doesn't notice until it is pointed out, and I think that was also based on real-life incidents.
