and not because it's going bad, our year has been great (with my aspie anyway, one run in with out NT). Here's the reason: I don't think my Aspie's binders will make it!! and his backpack is going to cause great back distress!

My son has to take his the complete contents of his locker home with him every day!!!

Last summer I threw away some notebooks from 6th grade (he's in 8th now). We had a major crisis. "Why do you need it". "I just do"

I rearranged his bedroom a few weeks ago. I was holding my breath, I warned him when I picked him up, I said it was easier access to his bookshelf. Success!!!!!!!!! No major breakdown.

My son also won't let any thing go. We have a large shoe box for each grade. Right now we have them stacked inside closet along wall and present year is just under his bed. I take the stuff out of binder at end of year and put in zip lock bag(less space). I have just put this question to him and he says this stuff holds good memories and he is afraid he will forget them. I have seen him pull put a box and look through it but for the most part they just keep stacking up. We watched a show on CBC once that had this elderly AS gentleman who had a gareden shed in the back yard that his wife made him keep all these treasures in. He had stuff from his school years in there,he had all kinds of stuff in there, it was packed. I told my son this would be him(if he found himself a kind wife)

My father in law is @ 76 years old..and he still has boxes of clothing..FROM HIGH SCHOOL. He has Consumer Reports magizines..from the 80's. When he goes hunting or fishing for a few days..my mother in law sneaks stuff out of the house and into the trash. SHe has been doing that for @ 10 years and he has never noticed.

Max does not like getting rid of anything. He still has little toys from Happy Meals and he has not eaten a Happy Meal in at least 5 years! He used to have to hang onto his old shoes. He said they are like old friends and did a good job for him and it seems mean to throw them away like trash. I finally had to tell him we really could not hold on to old shoes. But I let him keep his old school work etc - we put them in binders and then on his bookshelves. He still won't let me get him more than one pair of shoes at time - it is like he is loyal to them or something........I have told him as long as his stuff is organized in wire baskets or whatever it is ok but about once a year we have to do a clean sweep. I only do this WITH him so he can make the choices. I have to nudge him somewhat but he would totally freak out if he came home and I had gone through and gotten rid of his treasures (as we call them). I find it amusing and endearing.

Well, unlike all those other aspies, I don't do that. Save unneeded crap, I mean. The pants and shirts that I still have from High School, paisley bell bottoms, are vital to my very existance, as they are my nest egg for prosperity in my old age. I'll sell them at antique auctions and make a fortune. Same thing for my collections of rocks from beaches, and sand from every sand dune west of the Mississippi River. \:\)

Ahh - I see - those are INVESTMENTS as opposed to useless clutter/treasures?

PS I am just glad the school year is over because I am SICK of homework! And we are all night owls so I love it when we don't have to make Max go to bed at 10:00 - so much less stress on us all!

Ugh! Paisley bell bottoms! I think because I lived(survived)the 70's in high school, I have an aversion for the 70's styles; everything about it! LOL I remember afros were very in and one kid had a red afro that could almost touch a ceiling.

I am ready for school to be over because I am tired of getting phone calls from the school about Fox's behavior. I have basically just taken Fox's side and told them that whatever happens is their fault because they refuse to protect him like they should. If they are not going to listen to him then I am not going to listen to them. Thank heavens we only have a few days left. Basically school is over anyway. As soon as statewide testing is over, the teachers stop teaching anyway. All they care about is that damn test and not if they actually learn anything. I know I am ranting but I REALLY need school to be over and to get into our relaxed summer routine. I think we all need it.
