Transformers, in my opinion, make great toys for aspies. the have a lot of moving parts and interposable yet can use your imagination as well.

I went to Walmart today with my son because he reached the end of his reward chart for doing chores. he got a toy for it, then I asked him what he wanted for his birthday since its days away. I tried getting him to pick a transformer (cause I wanted to play with it) but he opted for a RC boat instead.

so while we walked to the front to pay for it I asked "Iain, why dont you want a transformer? they are alot of fun and wished I had one when I was a kid" he said, "daddy, why dont you go buy a transformer for yourself? adults can play with toys too!" so I went back and picked one out that I liked. how could you argue with that logic? when we got home I showed it my wife and explained how I got it; she laughed. I tried figuring out how to transform it to a vehicle from a robot. I caught myself "studying" the intricate parts than actually playing with it. when I stopped I was quickly able to figure it out. I let out a little chuckle and my wife asked me what it was about. I said "oh its nothing"

Good logic!

Using that very logic, I might just go and buy me a bucket of Legos when I get my tax return. I'm planning on saving the majority for food, though, so I don't hafta go knocking on the food bank's door this month.

My mom DID say to spend some on myself. I need a new pair of pants ... but Legos are SO much more fun!

Dude, that's not a bad price: Legos via Amazon - $25!

No, indeed you cannot argue with a three-year-old's logic. I remember when I was three or four and I went to a farm with my aunt and we were watching a man taking some cows into the back of a lorry. I asked where they were going; the man, thinking a little child would be upset if he were told that some lovely animals were about to go to the slaughterhouse (as they were), said, "They're going to market."
My response to that was, "Will we be eating them tomorrow, then?"

...

Little can be hidden from an Aspie-child, I fear.

yeah stock up on food so you don't go hungary but you HAVE to buy yourself some Lego's. you can always go to the Good Will or Salvation Army for second hand jeans; no harm or shame from it either. about 90% or better of our clothes and household goods(non-food) come from the Good Will, its cheaper than regular stores and usually decent quality. occasionally can get brand new still in box or with tags on it.

you gotta have something fun for yourself to do. we are using this years tax return to go to Disney in the fall. of course my NT wife did the planning for it because she knows that I couldn't do it. I am happier now that the kids are getting older and have cooler toys to play with, so much more fun for me too. I might be an adult but that doesn't mean I can't be a kid too. I grow older but I don't grow up. LOL hap

You gotta love 'em - by the way Transformers are my son's current obsession - I can't count how many of these things he has and how confusing it is to buy these things they have classifications and the whole nine yards - I will post a picture of his room - they are all surrounding his bed!

no kidding it can be very confusing for you NT people kis but some how I am pretty dang positive he could tell each and every single attribute of each individual transformer too! ask him one day then tell me if I was right, please. I am not a psychologist but if he can tell you about each individual robot I'd wager a pay check that he is an aspie or at least on the spectrum. when I was young my facination was penguins, I mean I could tell everything and anything you wanted to know about them except their latin names or genus/family, by memory cold and fast.

my 3 yr old son has at last count 55 disney pixar "cars" cars. that is not included the 12 rare ones I bought for his birthday. he knows the name of each car and they have to be set up his way only when we play. I am not sure but he has almost every car available, or will.

my guy is "the fallen", a real bad apple maxium on everything and infinity power for attacks, fire blast and couple other categories but I didn' try to memorize it either. I doubt that it will be my only transformer either

Yup he sure is able to tell me from where they came from (i.e. original cartoon, 1st movie or last). He can also tell the difference between models - for instance there are voyagers and deluxe - I tell you people got a hoot out of me shopping this Christmas! He's also into movies - so he can tell you director, dates and what the critics had to say about the movie - favorites - Godzilla and King Kong (loves to watch the black and white!) God Blessed me with this special being and I just hope I don't screw it up! flame

and they say he isn't an aspie? god unbelievable idiots. do the doctors know of these attributes? almost classical trade mark of aspergers.

can anyone here refresh my memory if other gifted autistic people have these abilities? I don't have time right now to research it, family stuff and wont be at work for 3 nights when I do have time to research anything.

JcPenny's had a good online sale - I got two new pants and three new sweaters, including shipping and handling, for like 75 bucks. And they're the warm type of pants, too.

I'll have to head over to the Salvation Army soon, though. I'll need new summer pants before long (if this snow stops and melts lol).

I just finished mending three sweaters (one of them should have just been thrown away but I managed to sew the sleeve so that at least I'll be able to wear it on the weekends) and a pair of pj bottoms. Everything just seems to be falling apart!

Lots of people on this board have the gifted autism gene - I forget off the top of my head, but I know V-Dog is an encyclopedia on anything music-related and I'm pretty sure there's a few kids on this board who has the same knack. Unfortunately, I'm not one of those Aspies - I just tend to know bits and pieces, and that's only if my mind's running top notch (which is rarer and rarer these days!).

The psychologist said that he is not zoned in on any one thing - she put stuff out for him to mess with while he had a break and expected him to get caught up with one object - Ha! Of course he wasn't interested in what she put out - it wasn't what he is "in" to. She never asked me either so of course she didn't get to see that side of him.
