the only thing I can think of is to consciously and knowingly control and stop yourself from doing it. is it easy? I doubt it highly. I think it might be because of your aspergers, you are stimming or trying to relax. a few years ago I had a real bad stim of picking at my arm until it litterally bled. I mean I look like I had leprosy or flesh eating bacteria. it was disgusting. I made a conscious effort to stop doing it and it took a long time to stop and for my arm not to look diseased.

ruin your teeth? I figured it would ruin your cheeks by chewing on them. have you tried talking to a dentist?

If your dentist is cooperative, you can have her (or him) make one of your teeth fractionally larger, and it will stop the cutting teeth (incisors?) from coming all the way down, and effectively stop them from being able to bite the inside of your mouth. The only danger is cracking the bigger tooth, so they are reluctant. Oh, yes, chewing like that is a stim and a typical (in one form or another) AS tendency under stress.

i am crazy, I guess i get some kind of satisfaction out of doing it. Its wearing my teeth unevenly. I even chipped one of my teeth from doing this but it was very small and easily fixed. I probably am doing damage to my cheek. Some days i chew them so much they hurt so bad I cant drink or eat until they stop hurting. I guess im more worried about what my teeth look like though over my cheeks.

BK i told my dentist and he didnt do a single thing nor care. He was like." um ok." He told me to wear my retainers but I dont like the pressure from my retainers or the taste of the plastic in my mouth all the time. I served my time with those things. I only wear them at night now.

Well, I am crazy, i guess if you were able to stop picking your arm I can stop doing this. I just need to try harder.

Hopefully I'll be able to tell you! I maybe can replace it with one of my other things I do. But I kinda doubt it.

I think it is possible to replace one stimming activity with another. it isn't going to be easy or done quickly. however, I seriously doubt that we could ever eliminate stimming behavior. if anyone knows how or has done so successfully please let us know!

It's easy to eliminate stimming: get rid of all your stress. The stimming stops instantly.

I do realize that's about as useful as saying that you can avoid the pain of falls by just not falling, but nevertheless, that's the solution to stimming.

such any easy solution yet nearly impossible to achieve. how can you not have stress in your life? now if you lived in a paradise with every single need or want met at the snap of the fingers maybe then but would it really be all that great? the only other option of eliminating stress is to die and I really don't care to explore that option for at least another 40-50 years or so.

that is like saying, you will never fail if you never try or a more upbeat version would be, without trying you will never succeed.

The only way to avoid dying is to never be born.............
